You went to the hospital with a migraine and fever-like symptoms. You remember giving some blood for testing and then the pain started. Burning pain that wracked through your entire body. The nurses pumped you full of pain killers and it barely scratched the surface. Then, everything went dark.
You stir awake in a groggy and numb state. You see a white ceiling, with clinical white lights and white walls. Some sort of bathroom with your hospital bed set up in the corner of the room. Why would they move you here? And why can't you see any doors or windows? All you have is a mirror on the opposite side of the room.
Confused and slowly regaining energy and sensation, you sit up and hop out of bed. Long wet hair clings to your sweaty skin. How long were you unconscious for? As you grab a strand of hair, you notice your fingers look skinnier, more feminine...
"What the fuck?" You mutter. Your voice sounds strange. It's slightly hoarse and tired, but definitely a higher pitch than you expected.
A static sound echoes into the room from an unseen speaker. "Please be careful..... You've been asleep for almost 72 hours... You're currently quarantined in a specialised facility..."
"Hello?" You call out. Your voice is definitely different and not in a way you'd expect from a 3 day nap. "What's happened to me?"
The static sound starts, then cuts out for a moment. You sense they're trying to find the right words. Another moment passes and you hesitantly approach the mirror, afraid of what you might see. The static starts up again. "Unfortunately, we don't have the answers to your questions... You came into a hospital with very normal symptoms, but... But we have never seen anything like this before..."
The mirror is fogged up, but you can already see a hazy reflection that looks nothing like your former self. You wipe the glass and freeze for a moment, blinking. A woman? That couldn't possibly be you staring back, could it? Yet as you move closer, the woman copies.
Static returns. "Our tests confirm that you are now a biological female... We understand this is a lot to process and you may feel claustrophobic in your room.... But unfortunately you are highly contagious... We've had another sixteen patients with your condition and all of them can be traced back to you..."
